About the Event

Open to the public for this talk on the civic responsibility of the poet in America by The Paper Poet, Bianca Amira Zanella.

We will listen to poems about Democracy and selected poems for Election Day, in advance of Vermont’s general election. We will explore together the poet’s role of accountability to activism, protest, resistance, and political commentary. The speaker will draw bridges from history to the modern voice, using “Stanzas for Social Change” and “Poets Reading the News” as specific illustrations of poetry’s ability to respond to ceaseless crises. If time allows, the congregation will be invited to write a “ballot ballad”.
